NEDOSPASOV This brief historical overview on the role of Academician Vladimir Aleksandrovich Kirillina in creating one of biggest ANSSSR institutions - the Institute of High Temperatures. Of course, being the chairman of the Committee on Science and Technology under the USSR Council of Ministers, VA Kirillin made an enormous contribution to the site selection and construction of the buildings of the Institute. But his role is invaluable in choosing the mainstream themes and organizing research institute. That VA Kirillin belongs choice as the primary focus of research conversion of the kinetic energy of moving across the magnetic fi eld is highly conducting plasma into electrical energy, the so-called MHD conversion. Under his personal direction, created the fi rst experimental installation – U–25 and performed the fi rst successful experiments on MHD conversion.
